Ms. Yestrumsky’s 2nd grade class enjoyed a hot, Friday afternoon making Lucky Charms bar graphs during math. Students sorted and graphed their colorful marshmallows, and answered questions using their yummy data.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss Week at SPCS, K5 Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades enjoyed difference activities each day; a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, digital artwork, reading books, crazy hair day and dressing up! The highlight of the week was on Friday; students and teachers dressed as their favorite book character and paraded through the gym for all to see. Such a fun week!
Congratulations to Sarah Musselman (Grd3) and Vanessa Jordan (Grd 5) winning overall in their grade level for the Baldwin County Reading Council Essay competition, "My Favorite Book." Both students were presented a plaque and $15 Barnes & Noble gift certificate. Great Job, Sarah and Vanessa!
Congratulations to our 7th grade students who were recognized as Duke TIP Scholars. These students scored at or above the 95% on the IOWA National Standardized Test in one or more subjects. This program supports academically talented students. Students are enjoying Señora Crawford and Señora Stephens’ Spanish class. The first lesson of the year included learning the Our Father and the alphabet (alfabeto) in Español.
Students in Mrs. Diane Weber’s 7th math class have been busy working on their projects using innovative and creative techniques; the Operation Round Up Star Light Award has provided this grant for students to design, construct and experiment with catapults as a way of studying data and variables. This is an ongoing 2nd semester project as students work to enhance their catapult creations for a better result.
SPCS students, teachers, principal & parents traveled to Montgomery, joining many other schools, to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children by participating in the National School Choice rally. Rallies and special events are held across our fifty states in support of the National School Choice Week held every January. We are proud to come together as a school family to celebrate our Catholic Education opportunity.
Congratulations to Patrick Zitnik of the 8th grade winning 1st Place in our school’s Spelling Bee! Also to Ezra Sexton placing 2nd, and Lilly Doughman placing 3rd. We are proud of you all! Patrick and Ezra will advance to compete again on February 2, 2017. Thirty-eight students from grades 4 through 8 participated.
