In the late 1960's, a need to unite the many small Catholic mission churches of Central Baldwin County was identified. In response to this need, St. Patrick Catholic Church was founded in 1971. By 1977, St. Patrick Catholic Church had grown to be one of the largest parishes in Baldwin County and talk began of starting a parish school. Through the generous land donation of parishioners, St. Patrick Catholic School opened its doors for the 1979-80 school year. From the very beginning, SPCS has been administered by the Presentation Sisters.
The original school building housed Kindergarten through the 8th grade. In 1982, a library and reading center were added. In 1997, the library and reading center were transformed into a resource center and a K4 classroom was added. SPCS continued to grow with the addition of a school gymnasium in 2004, and a K3 classroom was added in 2012.
SPCS is located in Central Baldwin County on Highway 59 which is the main artery from the Interstate to the beaches of Gulf Shores, and serves students from all over Baldwin County: Robertsdale, Loxley, Stapleton, Bay Minette, Elsanor, Summerdale, Silverhill, Foley, Fairhope, and Daphne. The property was fenced in in 2006 and safety issues are always a top priority. All exterior doors remain locked and visitors must use an intercom system to gain admittance to the school building.
We have classroom teachers in grades K - 8. In addition, there is a full time technology coordinator, part-time art teacher, P.E. instructor, librarian, and resource teacher. There are also full time aides in grades K - 1st grades.
St. Patrick Catholic School, rooted in the gospel values of love, respect, truth, justice and service, embodies the teachings of Jesus and the mission of the Church. Today and in the future, students will be provided opportunities for growth in personal prayer, sacramental preparation, liturgy planning and participation.
